Take the Right Route - FAQs

13 October 2021

What is Take the Right Route?

Take the Right Route is a free-to-join rewards challenge designed to help you get active and support local traders and charities. It rewards active and sustainable travel for commuting and leisure trips and encourages regular, healthy activity for residents and employees in Falkirk and the District Towns. The challenge will run from Monday 18th October 2021 until Sunday 20th February 2022.

Why should I take part?

BetterPoints is an award-winning app that encourages people to get active by walking, wheeling, running, cycling or taking public transport more, for both commuting and leisure.  Taking part will boost your morale and activity levels, which contribute to your overall health and wellbeing, as well as earn rewards in the form of BetterPoints. You can swap  these for giftcards to spend at local businesses or donate them to local charities, so your community will benefit too.

How can I get involved?

  • Download the free BetterPoints app from the App store or Google Play.
  • Register on the app.
  • Join the Take the Right Route challenge.
  • To manually record a journey, tap the Play button ▶️ - don’t forget to press stop when you’re finished.
  • To track your activity automatically and make sure you earn BetterPoints for every trip, switch the automatic tracking function on - the app will then pick up whenever you’re on the move.
  • Check your points balance and help your favourite cause via the Donations tab or treat yourself via the Rewards tab.

How can I earn BetterPoints or win a prize?

You can earn BetterPoints throughout the Take the Right Route challenge for walking, wheeling, running, cycling or using public transport. You can also earn bonus BetterPoints for travelling to or through the five District Town centres by any of these modes. For full details on how to earn points and all the fantastic prizes on offer, see here.

What's the difference between BetterTickets and BetterPoints?

BetterPoints can be earned by tracking your walking, running, wheeling, cycling and public transport activities - over time they add up. Your points balance appears in the menu on the left of the app. Once you’ve collected enough Points you can redeem them for vouchers in the catalogue on the app or donate them to charity.

BetterTickets are prize draw entries earned for doing a specific activity. The Tickets you earn automatically enter you into our weekly or monthly prize draws. The more Tickets you earn, the more chances you have of winning. Prizes can include pots of BetterPoints and specific things such as District Towns Gift Cards.

What can I spend my BetterPoints on?

You can give your Points to your favourite charity by tapping Donate in the app, or check out our list of local and national vouchers by tapping Redeem. You can swap them for District Towns Gift Cards which are accepted by over 100 local businesses.

Given the current situation with COVID-19, is it safe to take part in this challenge?

Rest assured that all the activities promoted as part of this programme fall in line with current safety recommendations and advice regarding COVID-19. Walking, wheeling, running and cycling can be done on an individual basis with adherence to social distancing guidelines. Please visit the project website for a link to the latest COVID-19 Guidance (https://ttrr.betterpoints.app).

Can I take part if I am in a wheelchair, and if so, how do I record my journeys?

Yes! Simply download the app as per the instructions on ‘How can I get involved.’ If you select automatic tracking, your app will automatically track your journey.  Due to the motion sensors inbuilt in your device, and our algorithms in the app, it may assume you are cycling, rather than wheeling. In your timeline, after completing your journey, you will be able to amend this to wheeling and your journey will be updated. You will be awarded the same amount of Points/Tickets as walking, running or cycling journeys.
